Each one has a slightly unique grain. This will require a saw with high speed blades. Once you've identified the wood's colors and grain orientation, it is time to cut and stain.

Colors

how to make accurate measurements

Intarsia is as diverse as the wood itself. While saps are clear, heartwoods may be gray or reddish brown. Cherry, for example, is one of the woods that will darken over time. Cherry begins with a light tone and ages to a medium color when exposed to sunlight. Cedar and other woods like it have varying tones. This gives your project depth.

Intarsia can be described as a form of art that involves gluing different pieces of wood together to make patterns. Intarsia was developed in the Islamic World, but is most often associated with Italy. To create three-dimensional effects, woodworkers use different colors of wood with different thicknesses. Intarsia colors are commonly found on jewelry boxes and wooden chests.

This is a slow process

Intarsia requires a variety of staining and wood types. Intarsia artists need to have different types of wood and different stains in order create beautiful patterns. You can use plywood or birch, but there are other wood options. The type of wood that an artist chooses is entirely dependent on his or her personal preference. Intarsia projects are often created by craftsmen who prefer Western Red Cedar.

Intarsia woodworking begins with the cutting and labeling of inlay pieces. Then, the artist fuses the pieces together using adhesive or glue. After the glue dries, the woodworker finishes off the piece using a double bevel edge inlay. This tedious process takes skill and is truly a work-of-art.

How To

How do you accurately measure wood?

We use many methods to measure wood. We use a digital ruler (a tool to measure distances), laser level (used for leveling your work surface), and bubble level (used for levelling your work surface).

Two jaws can be opened and closed on a digital caliper. One jaw holds the object being measured and the other measures the distance between them. The digital calculator is ideal for measuring very small distances, like the thicknesses or wood.

Laser levels are equipped with an infrared light beam, which projects a line across a floor. The laser emits a red dot along the line. You can check if the surface is level by looking down at the line. For larger surfaces, laser leveling is the best method of checking accuracy.

Bubble levels look similar to a compass. The center of the device contains a bubble. As long as the bubble is centered, the device will tell you whether the surface is level or not. Bubble levels can be used for checking the accuracy in smaller areas.
