Decide which stain you want

First of all, you'll need to determine which wood stain to use for your project. It can be hard to choose the right stain for your woodwork without sanding it. Different wood species respond to stain differently, and may react differently to different grits. It is important to test the stain first on a small amount of wood. It is a good idea that you use the same wood type and the same preparation technique. You should also be aware that a dark stain may not work well alongside a lighter one. A medium brown stain will work better if you aren't sure. It is more durable and can be used in many different ways.

How To

How to drive a nail through wood

The first step in driving a nail into wood is to choose the correct size and type of hammer. The most common types of hammers are claw hammers, sledgehammers, mallets, ball peen hammers, and hatchets. Each kind of hammer has its own advantages and disadvantages. A claw hammer, for example, is the best choice if you need to hit nails hard. However, it's not easy to know exactly where the impact will land. A sledgehammer allows you to hit large areas simultaneously, but it is too heavy and cumbersome to use for small tasks.

After you've chosen the right tool, hold your hand flat to the handle so it rests comfortably in one of your palms. Hold the handle in your hand, but don’t force it too hard that you break. The hammer should be held straight up with your wrist relaxed. Swing the hammer back towards the ground, with your aim at the middle of the nail. You should feel the impact on the nail from the hammer. Practice swinging your hammer on a block of wooden until you feel comfortable.

Once you are ready to drive the nail, place the hammer close to your body. To ensure that the nail is perpendicular on the surface of the wooden floor, position it. Keep your eyes focused directly on the tip of the nail. Swing the hammer forward, then follow through with the motion of the hammerhead. Continue this motion several times, slowly increasing the speed of each swing. Once you have mastered this technique, increase the power of your swings. Hold the hammer high above your shoulders and pull it down. You will be able to use more energy and put your best foot forward.

After you have nailed the hole, take the hammer off the nail. The rest of the nails can be pulled out using a screwdriver, pry bar, or a hammer. To prevent splitting the wood, ensure you keep the nail heads flush against the board's surface.
